Back Yard Bird Watching

Had a wonderful day watching and photographing the birds in our back yard today!
This shot is my lucky shot of the day! The Blue Jays don't stay put too long.

For some unknown reason to mankind, the birds seem to always know when a storm is on the way!

At least it seems that way to me. Of course I know it's because we provide them with both food and clean water.

At one time we would have to wait for spring to see a Robin. The winter Robins have increased over the last few winters.  Being a bug and worm eater, I have read that they are adapting to eating berries.
Not sure if this is a true fact or not!
I'm happy that the one's today look fat and healthy.

Hi Shirley,
What wonderous photographs you captured. How I wish I could be in the presence of such beautiful birds. We just get the standard ravens, doves, sparrows, and mockingbirds. I very rarely see a bird with much color, here in Central Texas. Hope your Christmas was an enjoyable one, and blessings to you and your family in the upcoming New Year.

A nice selection of birds in your yard there Shirley. As you say, as soon as the weather closes in they know where to find exttra food and shelter.

Such lovely photos -- I love the Cardinals most of all, just because they were always my Grandmothers favorite bird :-)

Great set of back-yard birds. My feeder stayed very empty this winter. Maybe it was just not cold enough!

Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

Shirley,
I can't seem to ever get a good shot of birds - they always fly away. Our birds here are very ordinary, like the sparrow. Once in awhile, I will see my beloved bird, the hummingbird, and I don't have my camera with me. The birds that surround your home are very colorful and pretty, and seeing them against the white snow is just beautiful. Happy New Year, Shirley! If you ever get a good shot of the hummingbird, please take a picture for me.

Yes! I saw a flock of robins eating berries off some low-growing evergreens today.

Beautiful shots of all your birds Shirley. Those blues and reds just pop out of the snow.

According to Birds of North America Online, fruit constitutes the majority of the American Robin diet in the fall and winter.
